Sidney Sutherland opened Sutherlands Hair and Beauty in 1957 and one year later introduced his eight-year-old son Bruce to the business. Bruce quickly became hooked and over 50 years later is one of the most well regarded hairdressers in the industry. Initially learning his craft in the salon, Bruce then enrolled at the Vidal Sasson Academy at the age of 17 under the guidance of acclaimed stylist John Santilli. Since then he has travelled across the country and as far afield as Germany to attend seminars and courses with hairdressing luminaries including the Mascolo brothers, Alan Stewart, Charlie Millar and Irvine and Rita Rusk.
As well as managing a full cutting column, Bruce is actively involved in training and can be attributed to influencing the careers of many Scottish hairdressers including sisters Alison and Gillian and daughter Joanna. Celebrities such as Joanna Lumley have been clients of Sutherlands, but Bruce prides himself on injecting the same passion into every haircut and is always keen to keep ahead of trends and learn new techniques.
Current salon ranges include Wella, Sebastian, Nioxin, GHD, Moroccan Oil, Keratin Complex, Babyliss and Tangle Teezer, and Bruce believes professional products, a proficient approach and personal treatment equal a happy salon experience.
