Tracey McFee mugs now available to purchase!

We’re always striving to provide the most inviting environment for our clients to sit back and relax in when they come into the salon. With this in mind, we recently introduced a new range of crockery to the salon for when it’s time for that vital tea or coffee during your appointment. Our exclusive mugs are hand crafted by Tracey McFee. Tracey is a regular in the salon and local to the area, in fact her studio is just down the road – the perfect fit! We caught up with Tracey to find out a bit more about her:

In December 2021 I retired as a dentist. I worked in a Dental A&E department, treating patients and teaching students to diagnose and treat toothaches and dental trauma. This was a job that I loved.

Throughout my career I worked to improve people’s lives and making students feel confident treating their patients, so I needed a way to continue to feel I could still make a difference. This void was to be filled with clay.

Although I never felt artistic like my daughter, I was encouraged by her to believe that I could be creative.  So, I thought that learning how to use a pottery wheel might be a possibility, just as I had learnt years before how to use a dentist’s drill.

In the four years prior to my retirement, I had been taking pottery classes in Alyth with Nancy Fuller at Momentum Pottery, Maria Nordgren’s pottery studio – both excellent teachers – and the occasional class at Forgan Art Centre, Newport.

Rodney, my partner, made the dream complete by building a beautiful studio for me, and the wheel and kiln followed.

When people are upset, or contemplating a problem, a mug of tea is often a comfort – a ‘hug in a mug’. So, as a potter, my aim is to make pottery as a memory or a comfort. A heart, or a quote is often seen on my work as a memory for a friend. Sometimes a simple heart will express that feeling of love and care someone feels for you.

When our friends and family hold a handmade mug, they will remember the giver, and their love – and that is the best gift to give!

You can also purchase mugs by Tracey on our retail level. Make sure you take a look at her gorgeous creations next time you’re in.
